Promises…promises… (The Hubby)

14 Jun

When it comes to a “bear trap” memory, Trinity definitely has one.  As I may have mentioned earlier, I am in Delaware for 10 weeks of training.  Obviously, it very difficult on me to leave the family, and I know the kids take it hard as well.

Trinity was quite upset when he learned that Daddy would have to leave town, AGAIN, for an extended time.  As a railroad employee, I have to spend quite a bit of time away from home, but 10 weeks is just a little bit excessive.  One of the things that I promised him and Bambino was that I would call them EVERY day while I was gone.  Additionally, I promised Trinity that I would take a picture or two of trains and text them back to  him.

This past weekend, the boys stayed with Grandma for a couple of days.  Trinity and Bambino spent the weekend hanging out and running around with Grandma so I didn’t have a chance to talk to them.  I finally talked to the boys on Sunday afternoon, and Trinity let me have it.

“Dad, why didn’t you call me”?  “You said we would talk on the phone everyday”?  “Are you still going to send me a picture of a train”?

He put me in my place.  It made me realize how much my kids look up to me and  how important it is to be a good role model for them.  I’m working on the role model part….a work  in progress.  Nevertheless, I really miss the boys and my wife, and I will definitely make sure I stay in touch everyday.

If someone is going to call you out, it is definitely Trinity. You gotta love that about him. 🙂
